wrap you hand around the chuck, grasp it medium tight and power up your impact driver. insert the bit and loosely tighten the chuck by hand2. Drill and drive to your heart's content.I have never had any slippage problems when using the above technique.If you use this chuck enough to develop some skill you can often save sometime by performing steps 1 & 2 together using the spin from your impact driver.To remove the bit perform step 2 with your impact driver running in reverse.I suspect that the folks who are having problems with bit slippage or removal are not using this chuck with an impact driver, or not following the instructions provided.Although not intended for use with a drill, I find I can do so by setting the clutch to just the right level so that it clicks madly while I grasp the chuck (see step 2) to provide some sort of impact-like force (set your drill to the highest speed possible for this step).Hope this helps clarify things a bit. I've owned this chuck for a few years now, and am very pleased with it.It is very well made. With a little practice it is a slick, quick, sturdy chuck.If my memory serves me correctly, this item is intended to be used with an IMPACT DRIVER.To load a bit properly requires the following steps:1. This locks the bit securely in the chuck and is essential to proper operation.3.
Makita makes good stuff.This piece is more than what I needed it for,but I'll keep it anyway. Hex drive screw driver.
One tool for both jobs. Converted my hex driver into a drill. Drills most holes in wood without the hammering action and is easy to load/unload the bit.
This makes removal awkward at best. Drill bits of all sizes slip right out, often staying behind in the material. I'm returning mine. Given the high caliber reputation of Makita, I was surprised at the poor performance of this product. The racheting feature that apparently is designed to prevent overtightening just has the effect of not tightening the grip at all. The overall construction and machining seem good, but a flaw in the design.
Nice chuck Much more solid than the others I tried. Lets you use standard bits in your hex drive drill or impact driver.
